Fire Shed Collapses In High Winds
During
the high winds of 20th March the side walls blew down bringing to
the end any hope of having this building restored for the open day.
This
wall had been a problem for a long-time as it had peeled away from
the side wall as in the wartime rush to build the base it had not
been tied in. Nature has now decided for us and the debris has now
been cleared and R&R builders (aka Richard and Roger) have commenced
the rebuild of this wall.
A
decision has yet to be made on it’s future. For safety reasons
it is likely that the remaining walls will be pulled down and the
site cleared. This building was in a perilous state and badly needed
restoration, sixty years of neglect has finely ended any hope of
restoring this building. One option being considered is that it
may be possible to build a new fire shed following the same design
as the original, if this was to be the case then this would be a
long term project with building work unlikely to start this year.
