We are rebuilding a Nissen
hut on the old site. New foundations have been laid and a re-enforced
concrete base has been added to the foundations. The Nissen hut
steel loops or ribs were obtained from Flixton Airfield hospital
site which had been used as a piggery for a number of years and
was demolished last year.
To date all the ribs
of the hut have been cleaned, checked for correct radius and painted.
These have been erected and 10 wooden purlings have been fitted.
It is our intention to build the hut to a high standard of insulation
to enable us to permanently display memorabilia and uniforms all
year round.
It is hoped to have the
Nissen hut finished for the 2006 Open Day, and it was!
